CMH is proud to present this star-studded and heartfelt tribute to one of the unsung greats of American roots music. Born in Cobb County, Georgia in the year 1900, Clayton McMichen was a true forefather of country, bluegrass and popular music. Bluegrass stalwarts Merle Travis, Mac Wiseman, Joe Maphis, Jackson D. Kane and Red Herron perform 27 songs spanning McMichen’s musical life representing the breadth and eclecticism of his career. This collection stands as a small part of this great artist’s musical legacy, showing his influence and undeniable presence in the history of American roots music.

Formed in 1975 in Los Angeles, CMH quickly established a roster of the greatest names in Bluegrass. Lester Flatt, The Osborne Brothers, Jim & Jesse, Mac Wiseman, Merle Travis, Grandpa Jones, Carl Story, Don Reno, The Bluegrass Cardinals, The Stonemans and many others recorded some of their finest work for CMH during the ‘70s and ‘80s.
When founder Martin Haerle passed away in 1990, his son David became president. To this day we remain dedicated to presenting the finest in Bluegrass and roots music. Our popular “Pickin’ On” series offers instrumental tributes to artists from The Beatles to The Grateful Dead to U2, to the delight of traditional bluegrass music fans and new listeners alike.
